Develop + Scan - ECN-2 Colour Negative / Black and White Negative

We use the Universal Mark-II 2.5k scanner. While our scanner delivers quality results suitable for hobbyists and professionals seeking quick proof scans, it may not match the capabilities of higher end scanners. For those requiring top-tier scanning services, we're happy to recommend commercial partners who specialise in advanced digitisation. Choose us for efficient and reliable development and scanning, ideal for everyday projects and initial film assessments.

Not sure which file type you need?

MP4 (H.264 High CBR) – Best for Viewing & Sharing

  • Universal Compatibility: Plays instantly on Smart TVs, PC/Mac, phones, and is easy to share via USB or Cloud.
  • High-Quality Efficient: We use a professional bitrate to capture every detail while keeping file sizes manageable for everyday use.

MOV (Apple ProRes 422 HQ) – Best for Editing & Archiving

  • Choose this if: You plan to edit the footage yourself in professional software (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut), perform colour grading, or want archival quality.
  • Massive File Size: These files are 10x to 20x larger than MP4s. They will not play on most standard media players.

Can I drop off my film or mail it in?

Absolutely! You're welcome to drop off your film at our location if you're nearby, or you can mail it to us if that's more convenient for you. Whichever method you choose, rest assured your film will receive the utmost care from the moment it arrives until it's safely returned to you.

I'm new to super 8 and want digital copies only. What's my best option?

For newcomers, we suggest our Develop + Scan Compressed service, providing you with high-quality digital copies for easy viewing and sharing.

What's the expected turnaround time for film transfer?

Transfer times vary based on workload and project size; we strive for the quickest turnaround possible and will provide an estimate upon order placement.

How will I receive my film scans?

Scans are delivered either via an online upload for compressed files or on a USB/hard drive for uncompressed or large files.

How do I receive my scan files?

We've got two handy options for you. We can either upload the digital files to a cloud service for quick access or, if you've got a lot of films or prefer a physical copy, we can save them onto a USB drive. Feel free to bring your own USB or you can purchase one from us.

What should I do if I have specific requirements for my scans?

If you have custom requests or need your scans to match a provided reference, please communicate your preferences to us prior to commencing your job.
